After more than a year wearing his customade prosthesis, it’s time to change to a new one. Actually, we should do it months ago, but since we hadn’t get the chance for any hospital visit, so it have been deferred and deferred. Bad momma! 😛
His current ones is already worn and torn. Memang fully utilised lah. Tapak pun dah berapa kali kena gam balik. Now dah haus & slippery.
Kaki palsu Fahry in Harian Metro, 5 Mei 2010
So we asked for a better one for Fahry, something that he could wear to the washroom, because we plan to toilet train him. And something that able him to wear shoes, sandals or slippers.
Lucky that we found one from this company, based in Germany.
So Fahry’s new prosthesis is German made one 🙂
International sungguh anakku. The previous one, Singaporean made, the next one German made. Later-later entah apa made pulak kan. I’m also hunting for local prosthetic maker, but most of them only assemble the prosthesis from overseas. Macam recon la. There are local people who are said to design and make the prosthesis (I found one in Kelantan and one in Selangor), and I’m still waiting for their answers.
Let me tell you the cost. Yang macam batang plastik tu pun costs around RM2.5k. This new one we expect at least RM7k lah. RM7000 is the standard price la for prosthetic leg. I guess local made costs around that as well. That’s what have been told by the physiotherapist lah.
Last 3-4 months I saw in the newspaper, several amputees pled for donation to get themselves prosthesis. I know it was hard especially for those who didn’t have savings, or even didn’t have money. RM7k is not little for them (and me too!), but that’s the price of walking for those amputees (and the one in my house).
I talked to someone from JKM, he said that JKM couldn’t always sponsor the artificial legs to all amputees. Sometimes they just bear half of this. Understand, there are many people those need helps from JKM. Not only those disables, but also the poor, kids, elders and many more. So we don’t expect to get some fund from JKM. Kesianlah yang betul2 memerlukan.
So, Fahry’s new prosthesis will be ready menjelang end of this year.
Be thankful for your limbs.
And for parents to OKUs, be thankful cos we manage to give our children what OKUs should. Out there many OKUs yang tak terbela nasibnya, jadi alat untuk orang lain, jadi peminta sedekah, etc.
