I got many questions about moving from my previous domain to this current one. Most of them are why and how. The why is because of the recent blog deleting, and I also wanted to have my own domain since ever. Then, how to register domain name.. read further and I’ll explain, as best as I could.
Previously this blog was hosted at blogger.com, as mysuperchild.blogspot.com. It is a hosted service, where the blog was hosted at Blogger server. Same thing if you have blog.wordpress.com, blog.vox.com, blog, webs.com, etc. With hosted server, you can get it for free. You don’t have to pay the domain and hosting because it is hosted at Blogger or WordPress (to name a few) software. And it is easy to set up. However, it is subject to their term & condition (Have you read their T&C? Hehe)
. You may have some restrictions, maybe for some kind of contents, ads or they could delete your blogs without warning.
If you want to host your blog at your own server and have your own domain, like what we have here, mysuperkids.net, you have to buy the domain name and pay the hosting. Domain name is your blog’s url and hosting is where it is located. Yes, you have to pay for both. Can you just pay for one of them? Definitely you need both, the domain and the hosting. To make it clear, imagine the domain as your house address, and the hosting is your house. What’s an address mean without a house?
Actually we registered our domain name with Godaddy. You can get USD9.99/yr for .COM, USD12.99/yr for .NET or USD14.99/yr for .ORG. You can get 10% discount with these special coupons: OYH1, BTPS4
or chill1. Why we bought this domain name with US company? Simply because it is the cheapest!
You can compare with our Malaysian company who offer the same thing but higher price here with Exabytes.. You have to purchase it for RM199/yr with them.
Let’s talk about hosting. You can host with Senihost for RM100/yr or RM160/2yrs. For blogging and image storing, 20Gb is more than enough. or, you might want to upgrade to the ProSite Expert package for RM250/yr or RM400/yr for double capacity (50Gb). on monthly data transfer, also most bloggers will find 60Gb/mo data transfer sufficient; unless you blog received millions of impresions per month (like malaysiakini.com, hehe). The only setback is you can only use this hosting with 1 domain name. But still, is shouldn’t be a problem unless you plan to register more than one domain name.
On top of that, it offers unlimited MySQL database (to install wordpress, blogger, typepad, forum etc), unlimited subdomain (for your husband, children or colleagues blogs etc) & unlimited email account (so that you can get yourname@yourname.com, yourhusband@yourname.com, yourchildren@yourname.com email addresses)

When you made the payment, you are officially have your own domain. Now you can select any blogging software, e.g. WordPress to place your blog, and get a complete control over it. But don’t forget to renew your license, and take note that having a server of your own is a bit technical than using hosted ones.
So now your have choices, either you would like to have a private hall or sharing a hall with millions bloggers out there, and you have to follow what’s the hall’s owner say about your present. They could kick you out anytime right, because they own the hall. Having your own, private hall is such a good feeling when nobody would disturb you, and it is a pride when telling you own name to mention about your hall, isn’t it?
