When I heard about Allahyarhamah Yasmin Ahmad’s demise last week, immediately came across my head (of course after the honorable ‘wishes’ – inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rojiun) “So who will make PETRONAS’s great commercial?”. So notty me thinking about it kan.
I’m not her fan, but I like, urm.. sometimes.. to follow the controversy she ignited, especially in her films. I still remember reading reviews about her first film, Rabun years ago. Many were disgaree with the scene ‘husband and wife taking bath together with a piece of cloth (berkembam)’, and lots more complaints about her other masterpieces, mostly about the kembam2 things and the mesra2 between families. How funny. I don’t think these received such condemn:
And of course I love her commercials. So unique and even I had to pause for some seconds to think about messages behind the ads. For instance, Abiy and I always talk about the messages in the commercial. Surprisingly we found out that most of them are pointed to the PETRONAS’s staffs themselves. HaHaHa.
Last Saturday we watched Majalah 3 – Pewarisan Yasmin Ahmad.
Lots of touching elements in the tribute program.
- Lots of people visited her, at the masjid and graveyard, including non-Muslims. When my time comes, will I have such lots of visitors?
- Friends cried for her demise, including men. What had she done to them until they willing to drop their tears (the men)?
- Her left is a big loss, and she received lots of ucapan from her fans, mostly non-Malays.
- She was said to be the pioneer of 1Malaysia.
- Many more…
And the most touchy part is when her mother cried while embracing the soil where she laid beneath.
- Will my mother cries like that if I leave her to other world?
And when her mother talked about her.
“Dia tak pernah tinggi kan suara, kalau tertinggikan, dia akan cepat2 datang sembah kaki makcik”
“Kita pergi sama2 ye mak. Sini mak, sini orang, sini abah..”
“That’s my mother”
“Orang nak mak yang mati dulu sebab orang nak sempurnakan mak & jaga mak sampai akhir hayat mak”
“Arwah pesan pada adik2nya “’l try my best to make mak happy and you jangan buat mak cry”.
No wonder she made the films as tribute to her parents. I think I never love my parents until that level. I’m not sure if I go before my mother, whether she’ll say the same thing about me (macam tak je hahaha).
She’s this era’s exmaple of a good daughter. Even if she’s at her 50s but her attitute toward her mother and father never changed. As what Azean Erdawaty said “Arwah macam budak kecil yang belum tercemar mindanya”. I guess she’s very true!
When I look in the mirror and picture myself, I see somebody with lots of holes. I even couldn’t be in the same seat with Arwah Yasmin Ahmad. As a daughter and as a mother.
I know I better do something.
