Looking at Hafiy struggling inserting the plastic shapes of his form fitter into its hole, Aunty Fatin asked me “Why it is so difficult? The hole is already has the shape, he just has to insert it”.
Difficult? Yes.
Sometimes we parents couldn’t wait to see our children ‘doing the things right’ i.e. putting the right shape into the right hole, move a car from one point to another, scribble a recognizable object, draw a cirdle, etc. But we forget about eye-hand coordination, or hand-eye coordination, whatever… that they have to get used to.
How to understand?
- Get a puzzle maze.
- Get a mirror and put it beside the maze in perpendicular.
- Try to complete the puzzle maze by looking at the image in the mirror instead on the puzzle itself.

That’s what our children facing before they get master the eye-hand coordination skill. Thus, it is important to stimulate their skill at early age.
How to help our children in eye-hand coordination:
- Play hitting game.
- Play ball throw and catch.
- Throw object to a target.
- Play mini bowling.
However, it’ll developed from time to time as our children getting older. Stimulating them in the right order is the best thing we parent could do. After all it is a good feeling when we able to understand what our children try to tell without telling us (of course la they’re.
