As Fahry reached 6 month old, his Paed, Dr. Anna recommended us to start him on solids, since he didn’t gain weight since last month! And he showed interest on eating during the ‘test’ session with Dr. Anna.
Actually I wasn’t ready (maknye pulak lebih2) to start solids on Fahry this early because I plan to exclusively BF him for about 1 year, or at least until he reaches 6 months for his corrected age. But since he showed signs of readiness for solid foods, i.e. he is already 6 months old, he shows interest on our food, he can hold his head steadily, double his birthweight (quintruple already..) and he can tell us when he is already full with milk. So now I guess the best time, furthermore, he started to cry out loud during our mealtime.
I started with baby rice. I strained the nasi and mix it with breastmilk, just make it slightly thicker than breastmilk. He refused to take it, didn’t swallow the nasi lenyek. I thought he was still having his tounge thrust reflex and it was somewhat a good news However, my instinct told me to try avocado. I asked Abiy to bring us to Giant Kota Damansara, and bought a very ripe avocado (no wonder it was so cheap, only RM0.99/pcs, dah half lebam semuanya..). I wish to have unripe one so that can keep it for a bit longer but those were the only avocado available.
Back home, I cut it into halves, put a half in the fridge and another half in the freezer. For dinner, I scooped a small portion from the one in the fridge, mixed it with breastmilk and gave it to Fahry. And it was soo….&*^^*& Fahry had it all and asked for more! He was crying for an hour before I gave him that food, suddenly he shut up and his eyes were very shiny looking at the spoon and started to coo for the food. Gosh gosh I was soo terrify because Hafiy’s previous constipation problem during the intro to solids phase is still phantoming me. But Fahry kept on insisting for scoop by scoop. Until finally it was all done by him.
And he was so smart too. For the next meal, I didn’t mix it with breastmilk, instead with plain water. He refused to take it until I squeezed some amount of breastmilk into the bowl, and only then he agreed to finish it. He likes avocado very much. We tried to give him banana puree but he refused. Then was OK with avocado. (Mahalnya!).
What I like about avocado it, it is easy to prepare. And easy to be kept as well. Just cut into halves, scoop them into a bowl and mash. Add breastmilk for younger babies.
Avocado did its amazing job on Fahry (and other babies too!). It contains necessary minerals like potassium, calcium, vitamin C and K, folic acid, copper, sodium and dietary fibers. It is also a good antioxidants and help to improves the ability of the body to absorb carotenoids (Carotenoids is a Provitamin A, that has many major benefits for our body). It’s like an ‘all-in-one’ fruit. And it is easy to swallow some more. It is soft and creamy, and I even curi³ makan Fahry punyee
I think we’ll stay on avocado and fruits diet for several days, since Abiy is going to Sabah & Sarawak for this whole week. Only after he comes back, we’ll gradually change to other foods.
I have no doubt to prepare his food by myself. For my babies’ food, I prefer homemade. The absolute hygenic, tasty, safe, and halal one
