Last weekend Abiy brought us out to find some udang geragau. Initially we planned to go to Kuala Baram but finally decided to try at the beach near the office dulu. There were lots of cars at the roadside, which we had no idea what they were doing at the ‘abandoned beach’. The only function of the beach as we knew was ‘tempat beli ikan & udang geragau’.
I asked Abiy to drop by and see what was happening beyond the grassy sand dunes. In my mind was the villagers looking for shell animals like kepah, tijoh, etc.
But it was so happening! Lots of people there.. just like the other beaches… Playing ball, swimming, bulding sandcastle, flying kite, etc. Oh how could we never aware that we have a beautiful beach here, just next to our neighbourhood. All this while if mentioning about beach mesti ingat Esplanade, Tanjung Lobang…
Hafiy had his most exciting moment. Orang tak pernah pegi pantai…
3 guys were playing with ball and he wanted to join them. Thanks God they were good guys and friendly as well. They layan Hafiy playing ball with them. I never thought that Hafiy is a very well-disposed type. He can make friend with anyone (But sadly, kids at his age don’t want to befriend with him. I see most of the time, kids at Hafiy’s age like are rather clinging on their mothers than accepting the friendship).
I didn’t permit Hafiy to play longer at the beach, as now is the HFMD (hand, foot & mouth disease) season in Miri. Plus, we still have to hunt for udang geragau.
Back home, after cleaning him I showed him the story book about going to the beach. Told him about what he saw at the beach just now. About the sea, sand, coconut tree, crab, wave, sky, cloud, etc. And finally he said, “beach” 😀
Now I see he likes the beach book, just after visiting the beach. I think I should bring him out often. Maybe… to another beach. LOL.
