The Art of Tandem Nursing

Hafiy and Fahry have been tandem nursed for almost 3 months now, alhamdulillah. We don’t face any difficulty, and every second is definitely enjoyable.

I got some ‘funny’ remarks about tandem nursing. I’d like to share ‘em here.. no offense

…When the elder drinks from Mommy, the little one won’t get enough milk for it’s dah kering kena hisap.

…The elder is ‘stealing’ what is belong to the little one.

…The milk is the little one’s right. The elder should not take it.

…It’s gonna be ‘nutritional conflict’ in the milk because breastmilk should be suitable for the child’s age. Kalau dua2 menyusu, nak ikut keperluan zat siapa?

…The milk is no more benefit to the elder one.

…Both of them will be adik-beradik susuan (????).

I have no comment (have a lot actually, but no point to share), you think about it lah

Only after Fahry was brought home on 17 January, then I felt the engorgement, leaking, and all the sign of ‘the breast full of milk’. I think having Fahry home is the biggest factor. More direct feeding, and emotional comfort. When he is home and looks OK, we have nothing to be worried of.

I am lucky cos Hafiy never stops breastfeeding, and unlike some TN moms, I don’t have to pump and give him EBM (expressed breast milk). Furthermore, my sons don’t like EBM. Even Fahry took his full dose of EBM during the moment he was on the feeding tube. After the tube was taken out, he refused to drink from feeding cup. Only when I was there to feed him directly, he had it all.

Now my Bs never stop working. Lepas Hafiy, Fahry. Lepas Fahry, Hafiy. Thank to the unpaid leave I take, so both of them get the milk at the ultimate point. Cemana if Mommy kerja.. both don’t like EBM, probably Fahry won’t be this chubby.

Usually in the morning before I get up from bed, I’ll nurse both of them, to make sure nobody will get up when I am away for solat. If anyone does, siaplah Fahry kena ‘pujuk’ by Hafiy.

After change and breastfeed Fahry, I’ll breastfeed Hafiy before send him to Bibik to sleep. He never wants to take his nap when he’s with me. And it’s not easy to deal with both when Hafiy is sleepy but refuse to sleep. He’ll go cranky and go ‘out of his mind’. It’s hard to understand him when he’s cranky cos he’s not yet talking and his sign language is rather making me confuse.

Evening feeding is relaxing. Hafiy will be less cranky and shows his love towards Fahry more. Usually both of them nurse at the same time. Most of the time we lay down, with Fahry on the usual position of menyusu baring and Hafiy sits or stands or even climbs on my other side.

When bringing them to bed, I’ll nurse Hafiy first and then nursing Fahry to sleep. Usually Hafiy will has his own time and eventually sleeping by himself. Thanks God Hafiy finally able to sleep independently.

I heart tandem nursing!

Recently Hafiy suka sangat riba Fahry. Last nite we caught him doing french kissing with Fahry. Ayoo, mana belajar ni???
