The Tits and The Bits of A Peninsular Bred Family in Miri

  1. We have to have a Pasport Terhad to remain here.
  2. We are happy with our RM200++ extra allowance for ‘overseas’ personnel. (hey, who said we got THOUSANDS plus?!)
  3. We pay RM3 extra for Shell’s small Ferrari car (in Peninsular RM5.90 and here RM8.90) but we are so happy for getting a ‘cheap’ toy for Hafiy.
  4. A whole chicken priced almost RM9/kg but we never complaint.
  5. We never buy ‘kerang’ for its price is RM8.50/kg.
  6. We rarely buy meat. Double the price of Peninsular.
  7. The food is ‘KLCC standard price’.
  8. Other goods are very much higher price than the same kinds in Peninsular.
  9. No Tesco, no Carrefour, no Jusco, no OU, no Midvalley… no shopping2 perabihkan duit!
  10. No Secret Recipe, no Gardenia, no Hi-5. All are local breads & cakes with no preservative! Like it!
  11. No MPH, no Times. Luckily we have Popular!
  12. We are the loyal customers of ‘Ah Chong Perabot’.
  13. We don’t have to pay tolls, stuck in traffic jam or spend hours on the road to reach our 5-minutes-drive office.
  14. We manage to go back home to take anything we accidentally left, from office.
  15. We have lunch at home sometimes.
  16. We can have medium size udang galah for RM15/kg.
  17. We can go to Brunei often, by car!
  18. It takes us almost 9 hours driving to the Capital City of Sarawak, Kuching.
  19. We can have adventurous holiday at Niah, Mulu, Lambir, Similajau…
  20. We can drive to Kota Kinabalu.
  21. Mi kolok? Laksa Sarawak? Umai? Yah, that’s our new favourite!
  22. We can officially balik kampong once a year (forget the AirAsia offer, sometimes it just can’t meet our needs).
  23. We use ‘kitak’ to express ‘you’ and ‘kamek’ to express ‘i’.
  24. We can have a true feeling of ‘Malaysia truly Asia’ here.
  25. We can see offshore platforms, ships and tankers from our beach.
  26. We can see offshore platforms from the plane’s window!
  27. We buy things in ‘pukal’ when we go back to Peninsular.
  28. Our pasar tani is called ‘tamu’.
  29. We have the first oil well here called The Grand Old Lady.
  30. and many more…

however, on top of that, we love Miri very much. Miri is a great place to raise a family. Miri, my city…
