Sambung Belajar di US atau UK?

by admin on January 16, 2010 · 24 comments

My bother in law has just finished his schooling. Biasala after SPM we’re start to look for places for study at the tertiary level. Now he goes interview everywhere while taking driving license.

For us last time, we just have several weeks (I think 3 weeks) after SPM ended to take a break before called to register at the uni. Rasa macam sangat pandai sebab result SPM belum keluar dah masuk U :P But I never went overseas la. Dapat Tronoh instead of Toronto pun OK lah.

For his brother, Abiy really hopes that he could go overseas. For him and his sister had their tertiary education at the local universities, so must have one sibling to graduate from overseas. As for me, my sister soon-to-be graduates from her life-long-learning at Melaka-Manipal Medical Centre that sent her to India. OK what, those Malaysian astronauts studied at India OK.

If Uncle Muhd boleh pergi UK ke, should be good.

british council

We (my girl friends and I) have a keji nice theory about UK & US graduates. Disebabkan kami bukan grad overseas so suka hati je nak compare2 orang kan. Oh itu memang sifat manusia yang biasa, kalau perkara tu tak dialaminya, dia pulak yang melebih2 ‘mendalami’. - kami sebenarnya jealous. Jadi nyatalah kalau orang yang suka kutuk/compare/judge orang lain tu sebenarnya dia jealous dengan orang tu.

Daripada observation at our workplace there are some differences between UK and US graduates (UK & US grads jangan marah pulak, this is just meant for joking).

UK grad = bijak.
US grad = bijak bercakap.

UK grad = skema dan ikut rules.
US grad = pandai putar.

UK grad = naik pangkat sebab kepandaian mereka dalam buat kerja.
US grad = naik pangkat sebab kepandaian mereka putar alam.

*Habisla aku kena kejar dengan budak2 grad UK/US ni*

Betul ke? Hehe. Sorry for the fact yang direka2. To me doesn’t matter where we go, if it’s in our blood then it’s us. Tak kira lah belajar kat mana-mana pun, yang penting otak jalan. But could be a big bonus for overseas student, because they learn survival better rather than us the local universities’ grad.

It’s a big investment sending a student overseas. As compared our fees at the local uni and overseas, ours are 80% much cheaper, so hopefully overseas student could give back 80% better services to those yang sponsor diorang belajar la kan. It mustn’t just giving chances for some people to catch holidays overseas.

It’s just like the idea of sending people from working organization to someplaces (overseas and local), for some trainings and on job trainings, in order to grab some skills so that they would be competent to do job.

Today’s student still have chances to rejoice scholarships and sponsors from our government and some big companies. So, money is not an issue as long as they do their job and compete between themselves to grab the chances. Yang penting belajar le betul2. Most of those companies are giving pinjaman boleh ubah, so kalau taknak bayar banyak/taknak bayar balik langsung, make sure bring back good result. First class le kalau nak jadikan ia full scholarship.

Way to go Uncle Muhd, make sure you’ll get a placement somewhere in London or any 4-seasons country because we wanna go there for holiday. Save duit can tumpang his house LOL.

*I have a cousin who is studying in Japan. If you’re reading this please contact me ASAP.

1 yang best belajar di US (yang kite tahu la sebab kite bukannya study sini pun :P )…sistem sini bukan exam oriented. yang tak bestnya assignment melambak2! setiap minggu dapat assignment. UK not so sure la. tapi sape yang study di UK takkan suka dengan sistem di US, begitu jugak sebaliknya (kata lecturer kite dulu la. don’t know why)

p/s: sorang anak buah suami kite pun insyaAllah akan ke India amik dentistry. sekarang ni tengah buat A-level kat sepang ;)

saya tak belajar either US and UK..tapi saya pernah pegi UK, saya sangat suka UK…based pada pengalaman bekerja dengan org2 US and UK..US mmg belagaks…konon2 pandai (tapi ramai yang pandai betul)…dan US vs UK yang ada kat atas tu mmg saya sokong sangat2..

Ofis hubbby pun big2 boss semua US, tapi kalau knowledge sharing, training semua orang UK uruskan..Again US belagaks….so vote for UK..lagipun kita kan dari british colonial..Lagi satu, UK aman damai, US slalu ada natural disaster..so kene pk gak tu but ajal di mana2..kat cni pun boleh jadi…

Tapi ni hanya US in ganeral..Jangan mara ye orang US or grad US..I ada sorang member grad US, sangat down to earth…tak ramai tau die US grad sebab die tak suke cakap ongputih berabok..slang segala..cume bila dia buat presentation, cakap english..baru sume orang bukak mata..terserlah ke USan nya di situ…

I’m not studying in US or even UK, i’m a soon to be middle-eastern graduate.(3 thn pon lg-insya Allah)

But our system here is following the US system. US lagi santai kott but its pretty difficult in its own unique way la.

UK is more discipline, more following rules as you said. And I think is better, anyway its hard to get to UK than US. So from there you know which is better, which is less.

Either way, I have a friend studying in US currently, she enjoyed being there and everything seem well so far.

Malaysian graduate pon bagus jugak=) Both my sisters as well as my parents were UITM graduate, I’m their ‘experimental’ project la.

Lastly, studying oversease meaning that you’re on your own. So, got to be more independent. Ex: kene masak sendiri kalau teragak, balik2 klas pk nak msk apa…bukan nk mkn pe ..huhu

kenapa tak sebut NZ? hehe. bukan I yg belajar pun, my hubby yg buat phd. tapi kalau utk undergrad, tak berapa bagus sbb kat sini (esp Waikato Uni, Hamilton) tak de Hons. kesian tengok adik2 undergrad kena pergi buat Hons sthn kat Auckland Uni. or kat Palmerston North.
but for Masters Degree & Phd bagus. ramai Msians kat sini.

Salam,
I graduated from local U for my diploma and lucky enough to study in the UK for my degree and masters, fortunate enough to experience working in the UK and Germany. My three girls graduate from UK unis in accountancy, medic and actural science. As you said it there are distintive differences between their graduates and it depends on individual preferances to finally decide where one wish to study.

from my prev reading time i mencari & compare uni nak further my studies..i found that UK dah a bit outdated on education. they r old school. … i compared syllibus UK, US & Aussie…

UK mmg oldies but lectured by real great minds. In a way, I perhati..they are still bounded by tradition & old ways…of educating.

US lak trully superb but they all nak u pikir sendiri as u go along with their syllibus….Yes, they like for u to be very vocal.

Aussie…I like them the best coz they are trying very hard to compete with the old UK ways & US vocals. Each year, they improvise their syllibus & welcome other people’s research utk intak contribution toward their education. So thats y i finally decide to study in Australia.

Back on ur choice of UK or US…Kalau nak ilmu yg superb & ada future recommendations for US market, go for US. Just that, things might be hard for people with MUSLIM names (bukan bercakap dr hati aje ni, this is fact i read from my statistics). But if u mmg giler hebat, insyaAllah not a prob to be employed anywhere entho u hold a muslim name. Kalau kat UK, easy to get a job with nama islam ni & also many employers are muslim.

anyway..I’m a local grad..now pursuing master in melb uni…self finance….:D ada apa2 impact tak to my opinion here..hahahha..

Babe, it depends anyway which part of UK & US our Malaysian students berkampung…kalau too many Malaysian, chances nak street-smart & upgrade survival skill tu will be questionable??? It’s a true cold hard facts received from ex UK & US grads…sigh…

I quite agree with ur statement..
As a comparison, my hubby and my ex-bf.
My hubby grad from UK.
Bukan nk puji but it’s true, cos my boss and other colleagues (we all dulu satu office..) pun selalu give him a credit as a fact that he is really brilliant.
Eventhough dia terrer gilerr ckp omputih, tp dia tak pernah tunjuk..

My ex-bf pulak, grad from US..ermphh..hampeh…cakap besar.. nk kate bijak…ermh…bijak memanipulasi adelah… :D

I wanna ask you something. What should i do after spm? I feel like going to overseas straight away after i finish my spm.

In my opinion, for postgraduate studies PhD

UK = more fundamental studies
US = more advance studies

UK = no need to take any courses
US = need take more than 30-40 credit hours

UK = no need to take any courses
US = need lab rotation for 1/2 to 1 year

UK = directly do your phd project
US = after lab rotation, only decide what project you will take

UK = 3-4 years to finish
US = 4-5 years and even more

UK = murah sket kot tp juah ($1 = RM 3)
UK = mahal sket tp dekat (GBP1= Rm 5)

Insha-allah will fly to uk end of this year to pursue my phd study in edinburgh..just drop by to my blog to follow my story there..cheers!
