Why I choose fruit (and vege) for my kids’ first food instead of cereal or porridge? 1. Because I prefer homemade. I am not working and homecook our meal, so why don’t I prepare my babies’ food as well? 2. Because it is INTRO not TAKING solids.

I heard (I heard la tatau betul ke tak) many mommies dreaming of mixing rice porridge with this and that sayur (broccoli is the most popular) and this and that fish, chicken or meat for their babies first solid food. But turned down when the baby reject that so-called yummy yummy first food.

Yes it is delicious, but for the first timer, a baby doesn’t need anything yummy, enough with food with different texture than his usual liquid milk. That’s why it is called ‘introduction’. And it has to be gradually, bit by bit until the baby gets used to other than his milk, later than can try other food with different texture. Furthermore, below 1 year old baby still depend on the milk and no need to rush to provide solid food.

Furthermore, their system is still immature and some trial and error has to be made to ensure : 1- they already can swallow (some babies still have tounge thrust reflex, where they tend to push the food out with their tounges instead of swallowing). 2 – they don’t get constipation.

To avoid constipation, choose high fibre food as their first food, like fruits and vegetables. Alhamdulillah, unlike Hafiy (who had a very severe experience of constipation), Fahry did well. If Hafiy started with babyrice, Fahry is the other way around. Rice or porridge will come later and gradually as well.

I think the idea of mixing everything for babies’ very first food is not the best idea. If we try one-type-of-food-at-a-time, it will give us clue if the babies have allergy. If it is mixed, it is not easy to find out which.

    mcm saya, saya intro dgn rice porridge. kosong. takde letak apa. pastu, intro apple puree, carrot puree etc. lps tunggu 4 hari n tgk xde alergi, baru la boleh campurkan 2 bahan tu. mmg stick to 4 days wait rule.

    now, dah establishing solid food. alhamdulillah, dia x reject mkn. anak sy lebih suka mkn sayur dr buah. dia pun dah nak masuk 9 bln. so dah boleh bg dia mkn beberapa jenis makanan lain.

      bagus kan! jarang babies suka sayur. my Hafiy pun makan sayur & orang terkejut dia leh makan sayur. hehe.

      in fact my brother sampai skg tak makan sayur.

    Reason as well is because some of friends or relatives tanya what my daughter eats, my references…I love to read and I want the best as well.
    The eldest establishes a healty balanced diet and when we go for outings or kenduris people asked how come my daughter doesnt cringe kalo makan sawi 😉

      actually other than instant cereal i never come across yg fruit puree & vege pun ada dalam tin, sampaila bila dah ada anak & jalan2 tengok tempat makanan baby. hehe. i still remember my mother’s nasi lenyek fpr my brothers tp i tumpang sekaki 😀

    sekarang airyll dah campur macam-macam. dulu masa baru nak introduce food kat dia i ikut 4 days step tu.

    setakat ni okeh aa… cume bile kite try one by one, kite tau what he likes and dislikes..

    betul tu Lyna…mcm org kata lah, selagi anak suka menu itu takyah ssh hati dia takmo mkn ke apa..maknanya dia still leh terima menu tu.

    Aliah skrg dah kurang nak makan nasi..Kalau mkn nasi, dia suka ratah lauk shj tmbh kalau ada udang sotong. Nmpknya dia suka sea food! (tp ikan tu tak sgt, ikan pun ‘sea’ food kan 😉

    hmm, darwisy mula2 makan bubur nasi kosong yang diblend halus. dan juga puri anggur, apple atau carrot.. bertukar2 selang 4 hari.. Alhamdulillah, tak ada reject. dah beberapa bulan baru campur ayam dan sayur. itu pun ada doktor yang kata jangan campur ayam dengan sayur lagi. sebab serat nya sangat tinggi. entahlah…

    memang dia tak makan nestum, doktor kata alah dengan nestum. entahlah, mungkin dia suka homemade.. atau air tangan mama dia.. 😛

    cuma masa tu, penuh dengan kontroversi bila balik kampung, “kenapa saya tak bagi anak saya garam dan gula bawah umur setahun?” jenuh nak terangkan kat orang kampung masa tuh… 😛

      oh tu mmg betul. the elders suka suruh letak garam dlm masaka utk baby, telur, kicap, etc.

      tak bole nak marah depa jugak sbb itu yg depa praktikkan dulu. maybe jugak one day kalo kita cakap 4 days rule kat anak kita sok, deapa kata kita ketinggalan zaman. hehehe.

    kak lyna, my lil nazeef pon dah mkn solid food since he was 4++ months old. buat bubur n campur ngn carrot n ikan bilis. but mase blend, buang ikan bilis dlu. so, bb akan dapat rase ikan drpd air ikan bilis tu =)

    saya dulu start dengan bubur nasi kosong,
    lepas tu tambah ikan bilis sikit, lepas tu baru tambah sayur dan ayam n ikan dll..

    saya rasa alia x gemar sangat sayur.. tapi ikan dan ayam dia suka! haha..

    but now, dia suka minum Calci Yum.. saya notice, dia punya stool pun OK.. x sembelit la.. 🙂 alhamdulillah..

    Baby Hambali took one week baru get used to the rice porridge mixed with carrot alone….then gradually increase ingredients & introduce many types…

    I happy coz my baby nak air tangan mak dia jugak, coz sometimes I resort to nestum or biskut Farleys bila balik lewat sangat & dah tak berkeupayaan nak buat porridge…& everytime like this, dia akan makan sikit jer, tapi homemade cook dia suka sangat! Ngan syarat bukan manis2, luckily fruits bagi cam tu jer dia nak tapi bila cooked with oats & prune, liat sikit nak habis.
