Floor Depot Laminated Flooring

admin Avatar

We’d decide to change our flooring for all bedrooms and the family hall on the first floor from the Fahry-jigsaw-puzzle parquet to laminated floor. Scouting around and we made to Ikea flooring department as our first station. It doesn’t has many choice of floor, and for God’s sake masa kitorang pergi it was nobody in the section, so we just left. The pricing quite OK, from RM5.90/sqft and 5% charged for installation.

We went to Houz Depot near Pelangi Damansara then. They have a wide rage of wooden floor, from simple laminated to solid timber. I thought I never to to the solid ones, more pricey and no warranty 😛 The pricing is more of less Ikea for laminated one, with installation fee for RM 1.40/sqft.

But, the choice of the pattern was not very wide. It has the same pattern but different colors for almost all the laminated floor.

So we tried Floor Depot at The Curve. It’s the largest Floor Depot’s showroom (they have one in Sunway Pyramid and some other where I couldn’t recall). Floor Depot has all we need. It provides different patterns for each flooring, for RM8/sqft with discount voucher. We wanted to do it for our stairs and it costs RM150/step.

The sale assistant was very friendly and very good in giving tips 😉 not forgetting the oranges and mineral water for my kids LOL

So we decided for Floor Depot. Furthermore, they have their own installation crew, instead of outsourcing to the third party. So we could expect accountability there.

A troop of crews came to install the flooring, about 7 of them. We expected 3 days to complete installation but they were very optimist to complete it in a day. Almost 🙂 only several steps of the stairs they couldn’t manage to finish for it was so complicated to do especially at the bottom of the handrails.

I bought a new micro fibre mop as recommended, because the laminated floor would damage if has contact with water, and it works very excellently! (I never used this kind of mop before :P)

Not sure if you are lucky or if I am unlucky. My experience with Floor Depot is quite the opposite. They were very quick to come for site inspection (where they pointed out that some parts of our floor was not level). So we hired a contractor to level the floor and called them to come check. They came, agreed that it was level and asked us to make advanced payment. We paid (including the so-called 10-year service warranty) and they installed our boards. The next day, we called them to highlight some parts of the floor was sinking when you walk on it. They came to rectify. Guess what they used to “rectify” the problem? Torn-up carton boxes from our apartment! The problem became worse and we called them again (the next day). They sent a team over the following week, and that team told us “our floor is not level”. So we (like idiots) paid AGAIN to have the floor re-levelled and called floor depot to come and check (again). Of course, they said it is level and re-installed the boards. When we called them the next day to highlight that now different parts were sinking, they arranged Rectification Attempt No. 3. To cut a long story short, they have sent teams over 4 times over the space of 1 month and are unable to eliminate the sinking areas. They can’t seem to make up their mind whether my floor is level or not (the general rule seems to be that it is not level when we complain about their shoddy work). They have tried charging me for materials used in the rectification (I guess “10 year service warranty” doesn’t cover materials used for rectification for problems that arise within 24 hours of installation). They keep saying they can send another team to rectify the problem (for the 5th time). They now tell me that they may have to charge for it. Service Warranty? More like Disservice Warranty. Lessons learnt: (1) if their installers can leave a job where floorboards are sinking, they have either not checked their work after installation, or they think that creaky sounds and sinking floorboards are ok. (2) If 10-Year Service Warranty doesn’t include materials needed to rectify unsatisfactory service, then Floor Depot may have discovered an excellent way to fleece customers! Just do a shoddy job and keep coming back for “rectification” – that way you can sell a few more footruns here and there! (3) If Floor Depot is coming to rectify sinking floorboards, hide all your cardboard carton boxes as that’s what they will use! I still can’t believe how badly I’ve been cheated.
